From HCC to BCM

Aaron Merrett shares his Newcross Journey

We’re delighted to announce that the new Business Centre Manager (BCM) heading up the recently launched Weston-super-Mare branch is none other than our own Aaron Merrett.

Aaron joined us back in 2010 as a Healthcare Coordinator, fresh from his university days studying Economics and Business in the happiest place in the UK – Bristol. Displaying an impressive work morale and good business logic, he soon progressed to a shift supervisor and made Team Leader by 2013. It is with great pleasure that we can now announce his promotion to Trainee BCM, a title which he whole-heartedly deserves.

Coming from a nursing family, Aaron has been inspired in the healthcare sector by his father and aunt, who both work as Registered Nurses (RNLD and RGN respectively). Their hard work and dedication, not only to the healthcare sector, but to each individual they care for, has motivated Aaron’s person-centred approach to his work, allowing him to promote and embody the Newcross Ethos on a daily basis.

We’re proud to say that we also promote the success of our employees and actively encourage their development and progression within the company. Aaron has benefited from a variety of training courses, with thanks to our Learning and Development Team, his most memorable being the Team Leader Development programme he completed in 2015.

He’s also reaped the benefits of a close mentorship with Steve Churches, our Wales and West Regional Operations Manager, learning the ropes and building on Steve’s years of experience as a BCM.

Aaron commented, “I love Newcross because of the impact our staff have. We have many clients and service users and I can proudly say that we provide excellent care for them on a daily basis. Being in such a fast-paced industry, I’m delighted to be a part of a company that is always progressing and moving forwards.”

“I’d like to offer a special mention to Sarah Quick for all her support in helping me to develop my skills, and to Steve Churches and Geoff White for always challenging me to improve and be the best version of myself.”

Aaron’s Fun Facts:

  • I was born in Telford in the West Midlands - a fair way from the Seaside town of Weston-super-Mare!
  • I’m named after the Isle of Arran located off the coast of Scotland, where my family are from.
  • I’m an avid reader and also brew my own cider!
  • Weston-super-Mare is actually a blend of Anglo Saxon and Latin phrases. Weston comes from Anglo Saxon phrase for settlement – ‘tun’ and super-Mare comes from the Latin meaning of ‘above sea’.
