Healthcare Heroes: HCA Sue's Story

We love hearing about what our healthcare staff are up to, on shift or otherwise. We recently reached out across our social media platforms, to find out about occasions when you helped others in their hour of need. This is Sue's story...

"A couple of years ago we went to watch friends play badminton while on a break. We were outside - next to the A380. I remember hearing the screech of brakes and then this almighty crash. We of course jumped up and went over to see the car facing the wrong way...

Then the sound no mother can ignore - the scream of a child... I instantly climbed through the hedge and down the embankment and in one jump leaped the fence. Over the barrier to the car, the man driving got out and I told him to get to the side now as the car was smoking and the child was in the front in a car seat. I took out the car seat and took him to sit next to dad, a safe distance away.

Dad was in shock and toddler was fine other than shaken. My husband called the emergency services and they were on scene within minutes. I stayed with them while the ambulance service checked them over and their family arrived.

I have never moved so fast in my life."

Congratulations Sue and thank you for all of the hard work you put in for Newcross. We are proud to have you as part of the team.
