The Heart of Quality

Our Clinical Excellence team is nurse-lead by Michelle Gorringe, Managing Director, and Juliette Millard, Head of Clinical Excellence.  Clinical excellence underpins everything we do at Newcross, from supporting our staff with the revalidations and concerns on shifts, to carrying out quality assurance. Over the past few months the team has grown rapidly and we have welcomed some fantastically knowledgeable individuals.

Job Title: Head of Clinical Excellence

After qualifying in 1989 as a nurse I worked in various surgical specialties before specialising in cancer nursing and hospice care for 8 years.  I worked extensively with people with physical disabilities from long term neurological conditions, acquired brain and spinal injuries to people with complex needs within the voluntary sector.  More recently I worked nurse advisor in a national post where I managed Clinical Governance and Best Practice across a range of services: residential, supported living, day and respite services, and domiciliary care.

In 2015 I completed a Masters Degree in Advancing Healthcare Practice. My specialist knowledge area is medicine management in social care, which led to me sitting on the NICE guidance development group advising on the medicines management guidelines for care homes, published in 2014. I have since been a member of a NICE quality standards advisory committee, where I support the development of their quality standards.

Job Title: Quality Assurance and Audit Manager

I trained in London to be a nurse, in the old days when we wore frilly starched hats.

Currently, I’m based in Truro, and for 11 years I have been part of the Newcross team. I am not just involved with the clinical side of the business, I also represent the "Assurance" aspects of our business.

I support and work alongside all of our departments and aspects of the business.  My key responsibility is to make sure that the business is operating in line with its policies and regulatory requirements, and to promote quality in everything we do.

I have been working in Healthcare Recruitment for 3 UK nationals for over 20 years, and have weathered several changes in regulation and healthcare legislation along the way.  This experience, combined with a past history of working in a variety of roles from a Branch Manager and Regional Manager, to running a project setting up a large Call Centre followed by a spell in compliance,  have put me in good stead to support the business on registrations, process and Auditing activities.

Since 2009 I have worked part time for Newcross, starting in the Plymouth branch supporting recruitment and complex care. Outside of Newcross I work as the Senior Sister of the Day Care Unit at Torbay hospital. I moved to Head Office to support the recruitment of nurses and now work for the Clinical Excellence team. My one day a week consists of supporting Lin with reflections and revalidations for our nursing staff. I contribute to updating and writing new policies and protocols as needed, and have recently been involved in writing articles for the Newcross News on clinical issues that have been identified from clinical complaints and errors.

Job Title: Lead Nurse, Plymouth Branch

I have worked for Newcross for an excess of 10 years, initially as a nurse for Plymouth establishment and then the Complex Care team 18 months ago as the Clinical Lead Nurse covering both the Torquay and Plymouth branches. I then altered my career slightly 6 months ago, when I was given the opportunity to join the clinical excellence team working for them 2 days a week.

Prior to this I was a cardio thoracic in London for many years.
