Healthforce Heroes: Carer Katie Johns goes "above and beyond"
Our Newcross Healthforce Hero this week is carer, Katie Johns. Katie has worked for Newcross since 2017 and in that time, she has had a massive impact in the lives of those she cares for. Over the weekend, a service user named Becky got in touch with us. This is what she had to say...
"I have a fantastic carer called Katie Johns and I love her to bits.
She goes above and beyond the call of duty when she is with me. What I mean by that, is Katie always makes sure that I’m happy, fed and sorted out before she goes. If I have an appointment and it takes longer than it’s supposed to, she will stay until the appointment has finished. She is there for me when I have a bad upset day as I have mental health problems.
A few weeks ago, one of my pet rats was ill. When she came into my house she came and gave me a big cuddle and she came to the vets with me as I had to have her put down. Katie had her arm around me and was cuddling me and trying to keep me calm and kept reassuring me that she has gone to the rainbow bridge in the sky.
I don’t know what I would done if she was there supporting me. I’m so glad she is my carer. I can talk to her about anything and we have a good laugh and banter. She is worth her weight in gold - I’m so blessed to have her.
My family love her as well."
Thankyou Katie for all that you do.
