Newcross adds to the collective voice calling for greater budget share for care
March 19th 2014 represents the day many thousands of voices will be heard as one with the aim of calling on Chancellor George Osborne to urgently increase the budget allocated to care and support services.
A social media ‘Thunderclap’ has been arranged by the Care and Support alliance, and at 9am hundreds of tweets, tumblrs and Facebook posts will be released with the aim of raising the profile of people in crisis in the community. Over 300 people have already pledged their support for more funding to reduce the impact of limited community care service availability or insufficient support.
It’s claimed that half a million older and disabled people have lost vital support services in the last five years, and with the rapidly increasing ageing population, care services will become increasingly over-subscribed.
The Care and Support Alliance is a consortium of over 70 organisations that represent and support older and disabled people, and since 2009 has been campaigning for change in social care.
