Newcross and Maitland Medical – In Partnership for You

From this month, Maitland Medical will be the new provider of occupational health services for Newcross employees. With 1 in 4 of us Brits expected to experience mental health problems over the next year, we’ve decided to team up with a company that can be there to provide extra support, even before it’s needed.

You can now log in to the Maitland Medical website for access to an array of helpful guides, tips and even training plans to support you in your day-to-day life. Login details can be found in the myWellbeing section of myNewcross.

Let’s talk about mental health

As a company, we are working towards breaking the taboo of mental health problems by providing open communication with employees such as yourself.

We know that disorders such as depression and anxiety can be debilitating, affecting function not only at work but also at home. And as the leading cause of disability worldwide, it’s about time we did something about it!

Time to Change, Minds@Work, The Mental Health Foundation and Mind are but a few of the many organisations in the UK working towards improving the nations’ mental health. Support is also widely available from your local GP, place of work, local schools and networking groups – so the question is – why is the problem still getting worse?

9 out of 10 people with mental health problems experience some form of stigma and/or discrimination.

This can happen in the workplace, out in the community, at home or even over social media. Fear of this social stigma is preventing people from seeking help, from both professionals and close friends and family.

But this is changing.

A cultural shift is occurring in the UK, with mental health slowly becoming less of a societal taboo. Governments, schools and healthcare providers have been promoting both physical and mental wellbeing for some time now, and we’re beginning to see the fruits of their labours.

We are seeing an influx of a younger and more open generation into the workforce, who in turn are actively helping to improve the support offered in the corporate world and embed a culture of openness.

We want you to thrive in the workplace, and that is why we have teamed up with Maitland to improve the services that we can offer you as valued members of our team.

You can now access information to help effectively manage stress levels, feelings of anxiety, trouble sleeping and much more – including how to look out for tell-tale signs and symptoms that you might need some extra support.

Remember - even if you are not suffering from mental health problems yourself, we are all probably working with someone who does. Providing a safe and welcoming environment can make a huge difference for our colleagues, and this is something we want to actively promote at Newcross.

We will be getting involved in the UKs Mental Health Awareness Week (8th to 14th May), so watch this space for some hard facts and what you can do to help break the taboo.
