"Coffee, Cake and Calories!" Social Media Champion, Holly, tells us about her Macmillan Coffee Morning
Our Social Media Champion for the South East, Holly Covus, recently hosted a Coffee Morning in our Canterbury branch, where she works as a Healthcare Coordinator. We caught up with Holly to find out how the event went for her and the team...
Canterbury branch recently hosted a Macmillan coffee morning. I'd never done one before, but desperately wanted to do something for a good cause (and who could turn down cake?) After losing my Nan to cancer last month the Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning felt like a good opportunity to give something back. It was a horrible thing to see someone go through.
When the opportunity to host a fundraiser arose I grabbed it with both hands. It's great to be able to share this experience with my colleagues at work as a joint effort to make a difference. We all know how many lives are lost and families are hurting through this terrible disease.
What a wonderful experience it was! My Business Centre Manger Jo made some amazing cakes as you can see in the pictures, they did not only look good, they also tasted amazing. I went to the shop and bought some - that may be classed as cheating, but I'm no Mary Berry. For everyone’s safety it was probably best I resorted to the local Tesco’s.
The support and feedback we got from all who attended was amazing. There were laughs, lots of pictures taken and thousands of calories consumed. It's so lovely to think something so small can change so many lives with treatments, care and all-round support.
Here at Newcross Healthcare we want to make that change into people’s lives and value ourselves as a company that can really make a difference. I'm inspired! We will definitely be doing more for charity and love being able to get the Canterbury staff involved. I have also decided to go 'Sober for October' - some have said I am crazy and some have offered me a gin at the finish line! If you can make a difference why not start now?
