Gold medal success for Sophie Tolchard

Head office based Sophie Tolchard has returned victorious from the Commonwealth Games having secured a gold medal at the  women's triples lawn bowls event held at Kelvingrove, Glasgow .   The final held on the  31st July, saw the England ladies team comprised of Sophie Tolchard, Ellen Falkner and Sian Gordon thrash  the Australians 22-4, with the contest coming to a premature end after the Australians asked for the 'mercy' rule to be implemented.

Sophie says of her time at the games "It was incredible, the opening ceremony,  being in the village, it was a fantastic experience."

Of her gold medal success she says "To get gold was unreal, I couldn't have wished for anything else.  We just wanted to play the best bowls we could and hoped that the result would come, the whole thing is a dream come true."

On her return to work,  Sophie was greeted with bunting, cake and presents.  She says of her team mates, "Everyone at Newcross was really supportive, I'm really  looking forward to being back at work!"
