Hamilton branch are helping the homeless this Christmas
Inspired by the biblical story of the birth of Jesus, the tradition of gift-giving at Christmas is an old one. While we're used to exchanging presents with family and friends, Christmas is also a time to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
At Newcross each year, many of our branch managers and healthcare coordinators decide to organise local Christmas fundraisers with their colleagues. Healthcare coordinator, Adelle Hamilton, told us how Hamilton branch are getting into the spirit, spreading some goodwill to a very worthy local cause...
"We've just kick-started our Christmas appeal for 2018. The charity is called lights on G5. They are donating to the homeless in Glasgow on Christmas day and are expecting a hundred homeless people for Christmas dinner.
Every year homeless people are sleeping rough on the street, with Christmas being an afterthought for most. We want to do something this year to give back, and give some presents of our own. We’ve started our Christmas Box Appeal and were asking for any donations – from food and toiletries to gifts and clothing. If you would like to contribute our box is in the office and all donations, however small are very gratefully received.
We're also doing something for the Dog lovers among us. Dog's Trust are looking for donations of food, blankets and toys this year so we’ve set up a separate doggy box for donations."
