International success for Sophie
Precision, judgement and strategy are just a few attributes that Head Office based Sophie Tolchard needed to dominate the green this weekend. Competing in one of the most under-rated sports, lawn bowls, the England Women's Team brought home the win in Glasgow.
Senior Management Personal Assistant Sophie Tolchard and her team represented England at the Senior International Series based in Glasgow over the past weekend. But this exciting win over Scotland, Wales and Ireland was just the warm up for what is to come.
In under 20 days Sophie will be travelling to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast of Australia to compete in her second Commonwealth Games. In 2014 Sophie, Ellen Falkner and Sian Honnor were the England Women's Triples Team that brought home the gold medal in Glasgow.
Following in the footsteps of her family, all of whom play bowls, Sophie, who has been with Newcross for over 3 years, has been playing bowls for years for the Torquay based Kings Bowls Club.
"You don't actually realise how difficult it is until you have a go! Lawn Bowls is a great sport to take up as its highly focused on skill and precision. I'm extremely excited for the Commonwealth Games and the opportunity to represent my country again on an international stage".
Tracy O'Kennedy, Human Resources Director and Sophie's line manager said, "We are extremely proud of Sophie, her achievements continue to grow in bowls and we look forward to watching her at the Commonwealth Games."
