Newcross Gets Baking Across the UK

Each year Newcross bake up a storm for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and last Friday was no different. With over 400 office employees in our 58 branches across the UK getting involved we raised a massive £1600!

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Last year alone they raised £29.5 million, with Newcross contributing over £3,000 of that.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cup of tea to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective; they did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, the Coffee Morning has raised over £165.5 million for Macmillan.

The impact that the money raised has is huge, with 2.5 million people in the UK currently living with cancer. One in three of us will get cancer, and it will be one of the toughest things we’ll ever have to face. Macmillan’s goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone.

£207 pays for a Macmillan Nurse for a day, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

Co-founders Stephen Pattrick and Michelle Gorringe very generously matched the amount that all of our branches raised.

We look forward to supporting Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning in 2018.
