Newcross steps in and saves Torbay Airshow 2019!

Torbay Airshow will go ahead in June despite the council's financial crisis. Newcross Healthcare and other local and national businesses have stepped in to support the hugely popular event.

On the Torbay Airport Website, it writes:

"The Torbay Air Show has been bringing families and friends together since 2016, this free event has grown in popularity over the last two years attracting in excess of over 165,000 spectators to the Bay over the two days.

Using the Bay’s stunning natural amphitheatre, the event is the RAF’s first display of the summer flying season and is well supported by their top teams including The Red Arrows, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Eurofighter Typhoon jet.

The 2019 event is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 1-2 June, but we need your help to make it happen. By teaming up with a range of local organisations and with support from those who have enjoyed the previous years’ events, help us to ‘bring the noise’ to Torbay for a fourth consecutive year."

The event on Saturday June 1st and Sunday June 2nd brings thousands of spectators into the Bay each year and traditionally starts the Red Arrows flying season in Devon. Doubts were raised earlier this year when the mayor pulled a £90,000 subsidy for the show from next year’s budget.

Last year the event cost Torbay Council more than £200,000 but over the last three years, it is estimated to have brought in more than £17m to the local economy.

Since the inaugural Torbay Airshow in 2016, the annual event has proved to be hugely popular with both locals and tourists.  It is now firmly established as one of the key UK airshows and has back-to-back appearances the iconic Red Arrows, Typhoon Display Team and the Tigers Freefall Parachute Display Team.

The business community has now stepped in. Newcross Healthcare has become the headline sponsor for 2019.

Newcross CEO Stephen Pattrick said:

"We are a proud sponsor of the Torbay Airshow, a brilliant event that not only entertains but also hugely advantages the local economy of Torbay, near to where Newcross was founded in 1996. We look forward to seeing the airshow!"
