Radford, Recruitment and Regions
Sophie Radford helps look after 43 Branches, plays 4 instruments and is pretty good at the worm. Not at the same time though...
Job title: Central Recruitment Team Leader
Location of work: Head Office, Totnes, Devon
How did you get to where you are now?
My first job was at 16, I worked for Topshop and over 7 years I worked my way up to store manager. I then became the Visual Merchandiser and Senior Team Leader for the Exeter store, all of this whilst studying a History of Arts degree at Plymouth University, for which I achieved a 2:1. I wanted a change from retail so applied for a marketing role in Head Office, I didn’t have the right experience so I was put forward for a Healthcare Recruiter role. I was ambitious, so after just 1 year in the role, I put myself forward for the Team Leader Development Programme – I’ve now been a TL for nearly 2 years.
Describe a typical day…
Every morning starts by reviewing target and stats for my current regions, Wales & West and East and making sure that our pipelines are running smoothly. I help my team work out their daily work flow, making sure to keep them completely up-to-date with what they need to achieve that day – this positive engagement continues throughout the day. I’m also in constant communication with the branches, ensuring I am there as a support for BCM’s and Regionals. It’s my job to ensure management are aware of any issues with the recruitment process, solving the issues myself where I can.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job?
That I’m able to talk to and meet so many different people within the organisation. Being in Head Office means that I get to meet every new member of the office team and explain how we work – it’s a great chance to get to know people a little better and learn things about their role! I also really enjoy the atmosphere in Central Recruitment, we’re all really good friends who are all in it to do a great job.
What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?
Keeping on top of 43 different branches on a daily basis, whilst also making sure to spend a good amount of time with my team.
An interesting fact/something no one else knows about you?
I play 4 instruments - oboe, flute, piano and guitar! I’m also pretty good at the worm…
