Shelley in the Smallest Scottish Pub

Usually you would find Shelley Szender within the Central Recruitment Team in our Head Office in Totnes, Devon, however last week she ventured to our Edinburgh Branch to interview applicants.

Shelley said, “Edinburgh was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I arrived last Tuesday morning and Diana spent some time discussing staffing and recruitment needs and looking at solutions. In between this I was working on the South West recruitment, my usual job role down in Head Office.”

Shelley and Diana Boyd, the Edinburgh Business Centre Manager held their interviews on Wednesday, with both of them interviewing a number of potential employees.  Shelley said, “We had a fantastic day of interviews and a very productive day with over 60% of interviewees going onto the next stage.”

Paul Jennings, Central Recruitment Manager, said “Shelley has had a positive impact on the branch, and used her experience to share lots of nuggets that will be really useful to the branch.”

But it was not all recruitment for Shelley, on the Tuesday night she went into Edinburgh to do an Open Mic at The Wee Pub, the Smallest Pub in Scotland, this was in the Grassmarket, a very trendy part of the city.  She said, “My comedic material went down very well with the male heavy audience, and  my performance  was paid for in the form of a beer token.”

Shelley regularly performs a range of poetry across the South West, from Plymouth to Chagford. As a regular at the Phoenix in Exeter and Outspoken in Totnes, you can find Shelley performing both comedic and more personal poetry,  every time she tailors her performance to the audience and event.

One poem Shelley has kindly shared with us about Mental Health, sadly at the age of 22 her Mum committed suicide after she had battled on and off with Mental Health issues. Shelley had to go to the Coronary's Court to provide a testimony and the poem is written from what was reported in the paper and what they did not say.

If you would like to see Shelley perform you can at her next event, the family fun day for Rowcroft Hospice in August.
