Newcross supports ShelterBox Typhoon Haiyan Appeal

The devastation suffered in the Philippines as a result of Typhoon Haiyan has been some of the worst in living memory. The UN estimates more than 11 million people have been affected, with the official death toll standing at 2,275 people on 12th November 2013.

Countries throughout the world have pledged to support the many thousands of people either made homeless or living in make-shift accommodation, and as a business, Newcross wanted to offer immediate and much-needed support to those suffering as result of the storm. The donation was made on Sunday morning, and will go towards supplies provided by the charity, ShelterBox.

ShelterBox aims to help up to 4,000 families with immediate aid, and already have emergency response teams working in the area to undertake assessments and direct aid to those in need.

A ShelterBox doesn't just contain emergency shelter in the form of a high quality disaster relief tent, it also contains warm blankets, ground sheets, tools, a wood burning stove, cooking and eating utensils and activity packs for children. Each box costs £590 before the logistics of getting it deployed, which means Newcross has been able to support around 25 families with immediate aid.

Managing Director, Michelle Pattrick RN said, "We're very lucky that we can support so many different charities throughout the year, but we wanted to support ShelterBox and the fantastic work they do in providing the practical supplies and support that people need to survive in this desperate time. Our thoughts truly are with everyone affected by this disaster"
