No matter how experienced you are, we all need help every once in a while. That's why we have our fantastic Clinical Governance team to guide the way in times of uncertainty. Our aim is to improve standards and increase support for our branch managers and staff, workers and clients. By expanding the team, we can provide support over a longer period and ensure we maintain our high standards of care.
There are many essential components to Newcross. One that many are unaware of is our wonderful Central Support (“CS”) team. Based in Bristol, they’re literally ‘on call’ 24/7, responding to enquiries when branches are busy and out of office hours. It’s a seamless service, with calls being forwarded automatically, so the hardworking CS crew - who handle around 1,400 calls every 24 hours - are often unsung heroes.
As an experienced nurse herself, our Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Michelle Gorringe saw an opportunity to raise our game. “I know that clinical support is one of the services that sets us apart. I believe we should always be striving to deliver more in this field.” So, under the leadership of Juliette Millard our Head of Clinical Governance, we now have a Clinical Nurse Advisor Team.
Every three years, when renewing your registration with the NMC, you will need to show you are living by the Code’s standards of practice and behaviour.
Our Clinical Governance Team can support you will reflective discussion and evidence.
What do you need?
- 450 practice hours, or 900 if renewing as both a nurse and midwife
- 35 hours of CPD including 20 hours of participatory learning
- Five pieces of practice-related feedback
- Five written reflective accounts
- Reflective discussion
- Health and character declaration
- Professional indemnity arrangement

Meet the team
Qualification: RN, MSc
Title: Head of Clinical Governance
Joining Newcross just under 2 years ago, Juliette has been a registered nurse for 30 years, initially working on various surgical wards before specialising in oncology and palliative care. After taking a short career break she worked with people with disabilities in the charity/social care sector, as a bank nurse, care supervisor and manage of a nursing home for people with severe and complex physical disabilities and then on to nursing advisor for a nationwide social care provider. Juliette completed her Masters in advancing healthcare practice in 2015, having specialised in medicines management in social care and supported NICE with best practice guidance and standards. Since joining Newcross Juliette has been leading the Clinical Governance team and has developed the Bristol nurse advisor service.
Particular interests: "I'm really interested in medicines management in social care, physical disabilitiy nursing and social care provision."
Title: Lead Nurse
A nurse for over 30 years working in both the NHS and Private sector Alex has worked in surgical nursing and various specialities including Urology, Orthopaedics, Cole rectal and upper GI. She is currently the Senior Sister of a busy day case unit at Torbay Hospital. After Alex joined Newcross in 2009 she worked as a nurse recruiter and but is now part of the clinical governance team.
Particular interests: "I enjoy managing staff and have an interest in Human Factors becoming a Human Factors trainer for the NHS last year. I am a council member with the British Association of Day Surgery and work with groups to improve the patient pathway within day surgery and enhanced recovery."
Title - Clinical Governance Nurse Advisor
A registered nurse for 12 years, initially Samantha started out in a Clinical Investigations Unit caring for patients in both the surgical and medical directorate. She then took the position of Nurse Manager for 6 years before joining Newcross as a Nurse Advisor in October 2017.
Particular interests: "Adult Nursing, Compliance and Continued Nurse Development."
