Safeguarding- Would you know what to do?
SAFEGUARDING – EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY, BUT WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Patients and their relatives trust that healthcare professionals will always do the right thing in regards to their care, however it has recently been revealed that 37% of trusts have no dedicated budget for safeguarding training. This gap means that both healthcare professionals and patients alike are at risk of being let down by the system which is why safeguarding will be the big issue being debated via #nurchat at 8pm, 23rd June 2014 on Twitter.
Nurchat is a fortnightly twitter based discussion group focussing on current UK healthcare issues. The chat is open to anyone who has an interest in the topic, but is an ideal opportunity for qualified and student nurses as well as healthcare assistants to meet and talk about issues effecting their profession.
Nurchat is particularly interested in hearing from healthcare professionals about when they last received training in safeguarding practices and if they felt confident about the process of reporting any concerns. The discussion will also focus on whether the current local approach to safeguarding reporting is working and if it could be bettered by becoming nationalised. Nurchat will also be discussing ‘whistleblowing’ within healthcare settings and if post Francis Report , concerns still exist about reporting senior staff members or groups of employees jeopardising the whistleblowers own position and job security.
To take part in a #NurChat discussion, you’ll need to have a twitter account. Using the tweet box on http://nurchat.co.uk/join-nurchat-live/ you will be able to see the conversation as it happens. This box will automatically add the NurChat hashtag for you when you join in. If you need any assistance, tweet @NurChat for help.
