Torquay team member in the running for Miss Devon 2014

Caitlin Milligan, Homecare Staff Allocation Officer from Torquay, has reached the finals of the Miss Devon 2014 competition to be held 19th April 2014 at the Imperial Hotel Torquay.

She was auditioned out of many hopeful applicants and has now been selected as 1 of 23 finalists. If Caitlin is lucky enough to win the competition she is automatically guaranteed a place in the finals of the Miss England Competition, which will also be held in Torbay on June 14th-16th.

Caitlin is really looking forward to the competition, "Hopefully I will do well. I have not always been the most confident person and was very shy growing up. I’ve definitely gained more confidence in myself and my parents have always told me to go for anything I want. If it's meant for me it will happen. As long as I try my best that's all anyone can ask of me. I think by doing things like this it really helps you feel more confident.”

All in the aid of raising money for charity, Caitlin hopes to do a skydive with all contributions from her sponsorship going towards the Eve appeal. The Eve Appeal is a charity which supports the promotion of raising awareness on gynaecological cancers, and raises money to fund vital research to save women’s lives.

Miss Devon 2014 also supports Young Devon, a charity which helps young people in Devon to build essential life skills and gives them the chance to become more active in their communities. To further contribute to the charity, Caitlin will be doing a bag pack in ASDA in Paignton at the end of March, collecting donations at the tills.

Caitlin, and several members of the Torquay branch team, are also taking part in the Rowcroft Hospice Sleep Walk, a local charity event in Torquay for the hospice which provides crucial support to patients with life-limiting illnesses.

There are various rounds in the competition, and the winner overall is entitled to a place in the final for Miss England 2014. The ‘Miss Eco’ round considers the funds raised for the charities and the girls are judged on their Easter bonnet, made from purely recycled materials. Other rounds include: a talent round, Miss Popularity, judged by most votes received, Miss Social Media Queen, and Miss Beachwear/Fitness.

Torquay Trainee Business Centre Manager Shabnam Dooley said, “We’re thrilled for Caitlin to be selected as one of the finalists for Miss Devon, and wish her all the best with her fundraising and with the competition.”
